The central bank has raised its 2014 inflation forecast to 0.1% from zero in its previous report. The National Bank of Hungary left its 2015 projection unchanged at 2.5%, according to the main figures of its fresh quarterly Inflation Report.

Hungary’s central bank rate-setters left the base rate unchanged at 2.1% at their regular rate-setting meeting on Tuesday. The decision was in line with market expectations. After the previous rate-setting meeting on July 22, when the base rate was reduced from 2.3% to the current level, the Council said it had wound up an easing cycle started almost two years earlier.

Premature birth has become a common problem in Hungary next to high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes, business daily Világgazdaság said citing a study, which also added that Roma women were in the highest risk category. The study was prepared by researchers from the Budapest Semmelweis University analysing data about 18,000 births in four counties of northeast Hungary between 2009 and 2012.

The average unemployment rate among Hungarians between the ages of 15 and 74 was 8% in April-June, the Central Statistical Office (KSH) said. The jobless rate was unchanged from March-May and down from 10.3% in the same period a year earlier. The number of unemployed averaged 358,900 in April-June.
