"The new exhibition of the Hungarian National Gallery offers a special reading of the images from the history of Hungary. The visitors can review the fateful events and the most famous heroes of the Hungarian history through the lines of the two most popular Hungarian poems: the Hymn (the National Anthem), written by Ferenc Kölcsey, and the Appeal, written by Mihály Vörösmarty.

A total of 333 new titles from 98 publishers will be for sale at the 83rd Book Week which runs from Thursday through Monday on downtown Vörösmarty tér. About 250 book publishers from Hungary and abroad will present their offerings in Budapest, said László Péter Zentai, director of the Hungarian Book Publishers and Distributors Association.

"The Pest German Theatre opened on what is now Vörösmarty Square on 9 February 1812, with two plays by Kotzebue, for which the music was composed by Beethoven. The idea for the establishment of the theatre arose during the reign of Josef II, as Pest was gaining in importance and the growing bourgeoisie had an increasing demand for culture.
