• Video: Football Promotion Hopefuls Vác Beat Bölcskei

    Hungarian football team Vác FC recently won 3-2, against Bölcskei SE, to the delight of expat owner and chairman Mr. John P. Marshall (pictured on left, with previous British Ambassador to Hungary Mr Jonathon Knott). This game was packed with goals as the video below shows, for the record the match scorers were Gulyás (2'), Kószás (22'), Pölöskei (35') and Miskovicz (9'), Tóth (19').

    At long last the Hungarian capital is playing 'itself' in a spy film, Hollywood star Melissa McCarthy and top director Paul Feig explain in a clip below. The movie, which will hit cinemas soon, is the third film listed by Mr. Feig and Ms. McCarthy, after the pair won hearts with the comedies 'Bridesmaids and 'The Heat. In a recently published film teaser, they recall their experiences of shooting in Budapest, and their opinions couldn't be more positive.

    An entry dated 22 April on the Islamic website Iszlám.com includes a video of a gigantic building which is claimed to depict a mosque planned by the Turkish ministry of religious affairs to be constructed in Budapest, a reader’s message to the news website MNO.hu reveals.

  • Hungarian Rock Bands Quimby & Tankcsapda To Tour Europe & US

    Two of the country’s best-known rock bands are heading off to conquer the audiences of far-away countries this year. Alternative rock favourites Quimby will take to the stage in clubs in the European cities of London, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, Luxembourg and Vienna between 15 and 29 May, joined by another well-known alternative band, Kispál és a Borz in Amsterdam and Vienna.

    Roxette are embarking on a European tour, with a premiere in Milan, and one gig in Budapest on May 19th. It has been 25 years since Roxette's breakthrough single "The Look" entered the #1 position on the US Billboard Singles Chart (March 1989). "Listen To Your Heart", "It Must Have Been Love" and "Joyride" also became #1 songs in the US, which helped establish Roxette as one of the biggest pop bands of their time.

    Selah Sue will be in Budapest again to tour her new album Reason, recorded live in Zurich. Selah was not necessarily destined to become an artist, “I grew up in a really little town in Belgium, and none of my family was into music,” reveals the twenty‐one year old, with refreshing sincerity. “As a kid, I wanted to be a ballerina. I danced from the age of six to twelve”.

    These folk dancers from Hungary are having a thigh-slappingly good time on tonight’s show. And according to David, the boys - otherwise known as FRICSKA - are pretty easy on the eye, as well... Even Simon's impressed: "Interestingly it works with the three of you doing the slapping dancing, but I can imagine a lot of slappers behind you." Ahem, indeed!
