• Now On Show: First-Ever Koalas At Budapest Zoo

    Budapest Zoo press release: Vobara and Nur-Nuru-Bin, the two koalas, arrived with us in February 2015. The general public can see them from 6 March 2015. Our zoo currently holds two male koalas, since, in the international koala programme, new member zoos can take only males at first. Then, in a few years’ time, the chance will come to replace one of the males with a female.

A funicular runs up Castle Hill to Buda’s Old Town, where the Budapest History Museum traces life from Roman times onwards. Trinity Square is home to 13th-century Matthias Church and the turrets of the Fishermen’s Bastion, which offer sweeping views.

    Vijay Iyer has been described by The New Yorker as one of “today’s most important pianists”, adding that he is “extravagantly gifted and brilliantly eclectic”. In 2010 the American Jazz Journalists Association (JJA) voted him Musician of the Year, and in the same year his triple album Historicity received a Grammy nomination.

  • Hungarian Film Wins Grand Prix At Top Portuguese Festival

    Hungarian director Károly Mészáros’s first cinema film, the absurd romantic comedy Liza, The Fox-Fairy, has won the main prize and the award for the best visual effects at the thirty-fifth Fantasporto international film festival, held in Porto, Portugal. It is the first time in the festival’s 35-year history that the main prize, named Fastasporto Grand Prix, has gone to a Hungarian movie.
