Ballet Company of Győr: Anna Karenina, National Dance Theatre Budapest, 5 June
The performance by the Ballet Company of Győr is the dance theatre adaptation of one of the most famous romances in world literature, Anna Karenina, adapted to stage by Seregi and Harangozó Award winning,

Artist of Merit choreographer, László Velekei. Atthe centre of the choreography based on Tolstoy’s classic is Anna, the tragic woman, whose passionate love, struggles and anticipated failures are adopted to the language of dance by the company.

In 1872, Tolstoy witnessed a young woman, driven by jealousy, throw herself under a freight train. The writer was haunted by the sight of the lifeless, crushed woman for a long time. He reworked the novel eleven times before the final draft was ready, which elevated Anna to one of the greatest literary heroines.

Velekei knows the female psyche well; his choreographies often include outstanding examinations of self-destructive, failed female souls, and his latest work about the story of this well-known woman fits into this line.

Anna has everything when, on a fateful day, she meets a handsome young officer ahead of a blazing career; Count Vronsky.

The married woman, who longs for a full life and true love, is swept away by her passion for her young lover, right until the tragic end. When their eyes first meet, Anna’s fate is sealed.
