Hungarian-Serbian River Border Crossing Opens In Szeged
A Hungarian-Serbian border crossing on the Tisza river has been inaugurated in Szeged, southern Hungary. Foreign ministry state secretary László Szabó said the government aims to improve infrastructure between Hungary and neighbouring countries. Szabó said there are a total of 100 border crossings in Hungary, sixteen of which have been established since 2010.

The government plans to build a further fifty border crossings by 2020.

Three new border crossings will be opened between Hungary and Serbia in the near future, he said, stressing the importance of making the Tisza river an international shipping route.

Border crossings boost the economies of nearby regions, allowing local businesses to increase trade and tourism-related revenues, the state secretary said.

The new facility was built using European Union funds. Zsolt Halmosi, deputy national police chief, said the new border crossing fully complies with Schengen rules.
