Hungary Nominates Nemes’s 'Sunset' For 2019 Foreign-Language Oscar

Earlier in September, the film won the FIPRESCI Critics Prize prize at the Venice film festival.
Made with an international cast of professional and amateur actors, the film tells the story of a young Hungarian woman who investigates the fate of her family and its Budapest shop circa 1913. It will be screened in Hungarian cinemas from Sept. 27.
Nemes Jeles largely worked with the crew that made his Oscar-winning first feature, Son of Saul.
The American Film Academy accepts one film per country, premiered in its country of origin between October 1, 2017, and September 30, 2018, to be nominated for the title of best foreign-language film.
The academy will publish its shortlist of five films on Jan. 22, and announce the winners at the Oscar gala on Feb. 24.
