Rising Stars, Palace of Arts, 19 – 21 November
One of the most popular endeavours in the concert organisation world of the past few decades is the European Concert Hall Organisation's (ECHO) Rising Stars series, which introduces young talents with bright futures ahead of them, even though they already have all kinds of accomplishments under their belts.

This season has some exciting experiences in store for us: we'll get to hear a string quartet that was founded in Shanghai but is now based in Austria with only half of its members Chinese, a Swedish violin phenomenon, a Catalan saxophone quartet, a British horn player walking in the footsteps of his great predecessor Dennis Brain, a British pianist, and a marvellous Dutch recorder player.

The spectrum of works to be played will be enhanced, like every season, with new compositions commissioned specifically for the Rising Stars. The six concerts of this festival are must-sees for musical astronomers.

Eliades Ochoa's performance at Müpa Budapest is sure to be one of the most exciting concerts of 2024. Although the Cuban singer/guitarist has been a famous musician in his native country since the 1970s, it was only at the turn of the millennium that the wider world first encountered his name, thanks to the Wim Wenders documentary on the Buena Vista Social Club.

So what is Jazz? Something that is difficult to define? Of course, because of its amazing ability to change styles! If you want it to be, it can be romantic-psychedelic magic, and at other times it’s an ambient jazz-pop journey, or perhaps a touch of hip-hop-afrobeat levitation. At the 17th, Jazz Showcase, every note points to the future.
