China Southern Airlines will launch a flight between Budapest and Guangzhou, Péter Szijjártó, the minister of foreign affairs and trade, said.

The flight, expected to launch on June 27, will operate four times a week.

With a population of around 15 million, Guangzhou is the capital of Guangdong province, where big companies with presences in Hungary, such as BYD, Huawei, ZTE, Sunwoda and Eve Energy, have headquarters and manufacturing bases.

The minister said the number of weekly flights connecting Budapest with big cities in China would rise to 17, more than in any other country in central Europe.

The development of economic ties between Hungary and China is a “pillar” of the country’s economic growth in future, he added.
