Budapest City Council to Phase Out Parking Meters from Mid-2026
Parking fees will rise and parking meters will be phased out in the capital from July 2026, under an amendment adopted by the City Council.

Motorists will be able to pay parking fees using the BudapestGO application from that date and parking will no longer be free for cars with a green license plate from January 2027.

The amendment of the parking decree, initiated separately by Mayor Gergely Karacsony and David Vitezy, group leader of the Podmaniczky Movement, was passed with 20 votes in favour, 9 against and 2 abstentions.

The upgrade of the BudapestGO app will allow public transport pass holders to receive fee discounts for public parking and to purchase a discounted pass for guarded P+R car parks.

Parking fees will be adjusted for inflation from July 2026.
