As the news portal writes, the amendment affects dogs, domestic cats, and wild-caught birds. The amendment was initiated by NGOs, and the Ministry of Agriculture announced a public consultation on the draft in November last year.
Under the decision, the marketing of dogs, domestic cats, and wild-caught birds at animal fairs will be banned.
The decree will enter into force from the second half of November, on the 15th day after its publication.
Péter Ovádi, the government commissioner for animal protection, told Index earlier that taking firm action against illegal breeders was a priority for the government.
The portal reports that animal health conditions at animal fairs have been repeatedly objectionable and that vendors have usually failed to comply with the conditions laid down in the legislation. These conditions also favored breeders, as animals were sold without pedigrees.
