Upgrades to Start Within Weeks on Hungarian-Romanian Border Roads
The upgrade of roads in the Hungary-Romania border area is scheduled to start "within weeks", involving 20 road sections, a government official said.

Romania, like Hungary, wants more border links, Levente Magyar, the parliamentary state secretary for foreign affairs and trade, said in Szabolcs-Szatmar-Bereg County, meeting officials involved in Hungary-Romania ties related to Romania's accession to the Schengen area.

The M49 will be the third motorway link between the two countries and preparations are under way for the M44 between Bekescsaba and Nagyvarad, he said.

Smaller roads between border settlements that had fallen out of use in recent decades "must be renovated now", he added.
