Prices Rise & Supply Drops for Used Cars in Hungary
The average asking price for used cars on sale climbed to HUF 5.5m in August from HUF 5.3m the same month a year before, the Central Statistics Office (KSH) and listings site Hasznaltauto.hu said on Wednesday in a joint statistics release.

Some 39.3pc of used car advertisements published in Hungary were for passenger cars worth less than HUF 2.5m, 26.6pc were for cars worth between HUF 2.5m and HUF 5m, 21.0pc for cars worth between HUF 5m and HUF 10m and 13.1pc for cars worth more than HUF 10m.

According to online advertisements there were 51,340 petrol cars on offer, 42,180 diesel cars, 4,080 hybrids and 5,480 battery electric vehicles. Compared to August 2024, there were 1,620 fewer used vehicles available.

Volkswagen and BMW continue to lead the most frequently advertised brands, while Ford overtook Opel in third place. These have been characterized by stable demand for years, and it is no coincidence that the order has hardly changed since August 2024.

On the list of 10, the lowest average age was for the Kia brand (9.3 years), while the highest was for Opel (13.8 years) in August.

The analysis also shows that owners can expect the following annual depreciation in value: 6.9 percent for gasoline vehicles, 7.9 percent for diesel vehicles, 8.0 percent for electric vehicles, and 6.1 percent for hybrid vehicles.

Every additional thousand kilometers driven results in a 0.2 percent price decrease.
