World’s Finest: Hungarian Wines Shine at Prestigious Decanter Awards
Hungarian winemakers delivered an outstanding performance at this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards in London, one of the wine world’s most demanding and prestigious competitions.

Among the highlights, a Tokaji Aszú from Oremus Winery in Tolcsva was named Best in Show, placing it among the competition’s top 50 wines worldwide.

The 23rd edition of the awards drew nearly 17,000 wines from 58 countries, judged by a panel of 245 international experts, including 63 Masters of Wine and 24 Master Sommeliers.

Only the highest-scoring wines advance through the competition’s strict medal system, with platinum reserved for the very best.

Hungary earned a strong overall result, taking home 8 platinum, 15 gold, 52 silver and 68 bronze medals. Most of the platinum medals went to the Tokaj wine region, where alongside Oremus, wineries including Antalóczy, Béres, Füleky and Juliet Victor were also recognised. Balassa Bor achieved a double success with two platinum medals.

Hungary’s success was not limited to sweet wines. In Villány, Heumann Winery impressed with its red cuvée La Trinita, while Somló-based Kreinbacher stood out in the sparkling wine category. Its Brut Classic received a platinum medal, with the winery also collecting one gold and two silver awards.

The results confirm once again that Hungarian wines and sparkling wines are competing at the very highest international level.
