Lidl Fined for Misleading Consumers in Hungary
- 6 Aug 2026 7:15 AM
"Lidl is the cheapest supermarket chain", the retailer had touted in advertisements, a claim that was "unfounded" and "misleading", GVH said.
The authority had earlier fined Lidl HUF 90m for the violation, but the retailer contested the decision and the Kuria, Hungary's highest court, ordered a repeat of the oversight procedure.
GVH established Lidl had misled consumers in the new procedure, too, but reduced the fine in light of the retailer's acknowledgement of the violation, its cooperation with the authority, and its pledge to take remedial measures.
