Tourist Buses May Be Banned From Buda Castle

Tourist buses will be banned from the Buda Castle district from May 15 because of the renovation of the Carmelite convent, the future home of the Prime Minister’s Office. The thousands of tourists who visit the Castle are to be taken there on Budapest public transport buses.

Budapest city council on Wednesday supported a contract between public transport company BKV and the Development Ministry on upgrading the M3 metro line with 28 affirmative votes and one abstention. The overall cost of the project on the north-south Pest line is Ft 139.5 billion.

The Lánchíd bridge was blocked by demonstrating taxis this morning. Approximately 1,000 Hungarian taxis are expected to close the main roads of Budapest today in a demonstration against ride-sharing services, which they claim still operate unlawfully in the capital because of lack of effective government action, according to reports.
