The opening and closing ceremonies of this summer’s World Aquatics Championships will cost Ft 3.8 billion, it emerges from the public procurement bulletin Közbeszerzési Értesítõ. The ceremonies will be held outside the Várkert Bazár on the Buda riverbank.

The opposition Socialists called on Mayor István Tarlós to recover money taken away by the government from Budapest transport company BKV in order to prevent its collapse. Csaba Horváth, the party’s Budapest representative, said that unless a wage dispute involving BKV is resolved imminently public transport in the entire city could collapse.

Hungary’s Prime Minister Viktor Orbán called Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss issues around the planned upgrade of Hungary’s Paks nuclear plant on Tuesday, the prime minister’s press office told MTI. US express delivery company UPS has inaugurated its Hungarian unit’s new headquarters and logistic base, completed at a cost of 2 million dollars, in the Airport City logistic park in Vecsés, near Budapest’s international airport. Jim Kearney, head of UPS Hungary, said the 5,200sqm base has tripled the size of UPS’s earlier base near the airport.
