Prime Minister Viktor Orbán will visit Japan in late November, it was announced yesterday, as he prepares to meet visiting Japanese Foreign Minister Kishida Fumio today. Kishida and his Hungarian counterpart János Martonyi are to sign an agreement on social security payments by citizens residing in the other country.

Panasonic just confirmed it will close its only European solar cell plant in Hungary next March, and so will dismiss around 500 workers at the factory in Dorog. The Japanese corporation plans to transfer all production to Malaysia, and as part of the reorganization of production facilities the Hungarian factory will reportedly end production this September. Csatáry Indicted On War Crimes Charges In Budapest

Budapest prosecutors yesterday pressed charges against war crimes suspect László Csatáry at the Municipal Court. Under the indictment Csatáry actively collaborated in the deportation of nearly 12,000 people from an internment camp in a brick factory in Kosice, Slovakia from May 1944. He was the head of the camp at the time.

Production has started in the new, EUR 900 million Audi plant in Győr, Northwest Hungary. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, who stressed the role of the German car manufacturer in boosting Hungary’s importance as a regional automotive industry centre. The company’s CEO called the Győr plant one of the pillars of Audi’s growth.
