By Andrew Davison: When it comes to museums, Budapest has all the usual candidates, including, art, national, natural history and ethnographic. These are all fine choices for a visit, but you may be the type of person – like us – that prefers to learn about the weird and wonderful in a new city. If that’s the case, here are some unusual museums and exhibits that can be found in Budapest:
'Flashing Mona Lisa', House of Photography

Closes 14 May. Over the last four decades, Sándor Kardos cinematographer’s amateur and private photo collection has become the home of almost one and a half million photo-objects: a unique combination of photographs, negatives, glass plates, and various technical images.

This 'Táncház' fest is a multi-faceted folklore festival in Budapest which includes performances by international groups presenting their own local traditions, traditional folk artists and musicians, dance groups, professional and amateur folk dancers, dance-house bands and dance teachings from all over the Carpathian Basin.

President János Áder formally opened a Hungarian House created to help promote Hungary’s 20214 Olympic bid in Rio de Janeiro on Friday. The venue, where Hungary’s past Olympic successes and an interactive exhibition presenting the Budapest’s 2024 Olympic bid are on display, is located in an equestrian club on the shore of Rodrigo de Freitas lagoon and is open for supporters.

The Valley of Arts Festival welcomes its visitors for the 26th time with 26 stages and 40 exhibition yards in Hungarian villages Taliándörögd, Kapolcs and Vigántpetend.
Budapest Pride Festival Gets Underway

The 21st Budapest Pride LGBTQ festival got under way on Friday evening. The events which will conclude on July 3 are organised by the Szivárvány Misszió (Rainbow Mission). The organisation’s head, Szilvia Nagy, called for political discourse not to be abusive, humiliating or degrading. She also expressed hope that the government spokesman would acknowledge Pride week.
