BTel Purchases Nordtelekom Clients In Hungary

Business Telekom (BTel) is purchasing a group of ADSL and IPTV subscribers from Nordtelekom, the two companies announced on Friday. A total of 2,751 ADSL and 63 IPTV subscribers are being taken over from July.
Carrus To Provide Horse Race Software For Hungary

PMC, part of French group Carrus, has won the Ft 650 million contract to provide the software to facilitate off-track betting on horse races in such places as pubs and bars. State horse race organiser MLFSZ and development bank MFB announced that 440 terminals will be in use from January 1. Of these, 40 will be installed at the Budapest race track Kincsem Park.

On May 1 MTI reported the less than welcome news that Freedom House's 2012 report on the freedom of the press degraded Hungary to the "partially free" category. Hungary received 36 negative points (legal environment 12; political environment 13; economic environment 11).

"Telenor will complete the upgrade of its network by the end of next month, the mobile-phone operator announced. To date, 2,400 of the total 3,000 antennas have been replaced and 200 new ones have been installed in the past year.

The bank is to have Ft 3 billion of capital, 49% of that provided by the state and 51% by private investors. Webbank will have only one branch, but its operations will be based entirely on the internet, to keep operating costs low.
