The Day of Hungarian Culture - the anniversary of poet Ferenc Kölcsey’s completing in 1823 “Himnusz”, the poem which later became the national anthem - was marked by celebrations held countrywide and in the Hungarian diaspora.

Hungary’s parliament will convene on five days during the upcoming two-week session, and lawmakers on Tuesday are likely to vote in support of cancelling the mandatory annual chimney inspection for households despite President János Áder recently returning the related law to parliament.

Hungary’s national flag was hoisted in front of the Parliament building on Monday morning, in a state commemoration marking the 61th anniversary of the anti-Soviet uprising which started on October 23, 1956. Hungarians rose up against the inhuman communist regime in October, 1956, and the country of 10 million people defeated the domineering Soviet Union of 200 million people for 13 days.
