Words by Liz Frommer: Happy attendees of the most recent Xpat Wine Club, held last Thursday 21 May, received a special treat: a slew of top tastes from two of Hungary’s best wineries, all served amidst a scarcely seen vestige of Budapest’s historic castle district.

Áron Barka started his career at the Kempinski Hotel in Budapest after leaving school. During the years he spent at this 5 start property he gained great experience in gourmet cooking. In order to develop further, he went to one of the most beautiful parts of Germany, to work at the Four Season Hotel in the Black Forest.

The Grey Cattle Festival, by the foot of the Badacsony hill where it grazes, is mostly a food fest with a cooking competition (beef goulash, etc…) accompanied by folk dance, music and other cultural offerings. And local wines, of course - try the winnerof the Szürkebarát (Pinot Gris) competition.
