Not more than three running races entailing major traffic restrictions may be held in Budapest in any year, according to an amended decree submitted by deputy mayor Alexandra Szalay-Bobrovniczky to the city council.

The Vivicitta Spring Half Marathon is part of a 2-day long event which is all about running. On Saturday the focus is on shorter races for the less experienced runners while on Sunday runners can choose between a half marathon (21 km), a Vivicitta (10 km). With distances ranging from 750 m to 21 km everyone in the family can find their own challenge and welcome the spring by running.

Zsolt Borkai, head of the Hungarian Olympic Committee (MOB), said that the opposition parties had weakened the capital’s chances of staging the 2024 Games. It is now up to the municipal council to decide whether Budapest intends to stay in the running to host the event, he said.

Runners are going to gather at the Hungexpo premises to run a half marathon in the middle of winter. Race starts at 10am, while from 1:45pm participants can challenge themselves over a 10 km or a 5 km distance during the Running Festival, happening at the same place in the afternoon hours.
