This year, 500 disadvantaged children are taking part in the Budapest Festival Orchestra’s Dancing on the Square project. In far-flung Hungarian towns, 500 underprivileged children have been preparing since January to show the world what they have learned from each other. It all culminates on 3 June with a grand open-air event, the Dancing on the Square project, alongside the musicians of the Budapest Festival Orchestra (BFO).
In the recent decades, Budapest has become an important point on the music map of Europe. There are numerous festivals and concert series which run every year in the capital, giving high-quality cultural experiences for Hungarians and foreign visitors too.
To mark National Poetry Day, Ambassador Lindsay recorded a video message for our Facebook followers. The Ambassador reads a poem by Hungarian poet Attila József entitled "Tavasz Van! Gyönyörű!" (Spring has come! Beautiful!). National Poetry Day in Hungary is marked each year on 11 April, the birthday of poet Attila József (1905-1937).
An extremely exciting gastro revolution has been going on in Hungary in the recent years, and as a result not only Budapest, but also the countryside offers true gems of gourmet places. Sometimes these restaurants are located in really small-scale, homey family houses, but also century-old buildings or contemporary masterpieces of architecture can be found on the list!
This special festival, held in 2016 between April 8 and 24, offers expats many cultural programmes in a variety of categories, ranging from orchestral concerts through to opera and dance performances, and contemporary crossover productions.
