Hungary Won’t Use Russian Vaccine
Hungary will not make use of Russia’s Sputnik V vaccine because Russia does not have adequate capacity to produce enough doses of the remedy, Prime Minister’s Office leader Gergely Gulyás said in an interview with ATV on Thursday.

“We are happy to take part in testing, but vaccines could arrive en masse in the framework of EU procurements or from China,” he added.

The Russian vaccine is in an experimental phase and is not licensed, it was announced earlier.

Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó welcomed the arrival of 6,000 Russian vaccines on December 26, with a view to conducting clinical trials in Hungary.

Gulyás cited a survey showing that about one-third of Hungarians are ready to be inoculated immediately. Another one-third are uncertain and may wait to see the effects on those who are inoculated, and one third basically rejects inoculation.

He added that employers cannot oblige their staff members to have inoculations administered.

Confirming that political leaders will not get preferential treatment, he said “in Hungary a politician who had himself inoculated when only a few thousand vaccines are available would not remain in office for long due to the wrath of the people”.
