The charity run will once again be held in a special location, on the airport runway, as an invitation-only event, but the Budapest Airport will make a draw to allow 50 pairs to participate in this signature event.

Budapest Airport is continuing the now nine-year tradition, and will once again organize its charity airport run, the Runway Run.

From the proceeds of the run, scheduled for 18 September, the airport operator supports sporting opportunities for people living with injuries and disabilities, through the Hungarian SUHANJ! Foundation, and treatment for patients with blood cancer, through the Anthony Nolan foundation.

Just as in the past years, participants can once again experience the joy of sport together, in a special place; the race will be hosted on the closed Runway I at Ferenc Liszt International Airport, where human strength and perseverance will take center stage for half a day, instead of arriving and departing flights.

Runners from the world of aviation, teams from various companies and athletes from the SUHANJ! Foundation are invited to the event. Additionally, Budapest Airport will draw entry for 50 pairs in a prize competition, whereby another 100 people will be able to participate.

It is a priority for Budapest Airport to support social causes; it therefore decided to hold the event last year and this year as well, in spite of the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on the industry.

The organizer has defined the conditions of the race in line with effective health measures and regulations. Amongst other things, it will set up more registration tables, in the interest of social distancing, will provide hand sanitizers at several locations and will increase the frequency of cleaning prior to and during the run.

“Nine years ago, when we launched the Runway Run series, we linked an important social cause with sport. Every year we welcome hundreds of participants on our “running track”; aviation professionals, athletes and tourism stakeholders.

We are proud that over the past eight years, we have supported treatment for children with blood cancer and sporting opportunities for disabled people with a total of nearly 70 million forints.
