Cancer Mortality Rate in Hungary is the Highest in EU
Hungary has the highest mortality rate due to cancer in the EU, the Hungarian Anti-Cancer League pointed out on Saturday as it marked World Cancer Day.

Experts say screening tests and a healthy lifestyle play a major role in preventing the disease, but the willingness to undergo screening is still very low in Hungary.

According to the Central Statistics Office, 30,593 people in Hungary died of cancer in 2021, for a mortality rate of 315 per 100,000 inhabitants, down from 328 in 2019. The number is higher than in any other EU country.

The National Anti-Cancer Program, according to a recommendation made by the World Health Organisation, mentions regular movement and avoiding excessive weight as an important risk reduction factors.
