Heat Alert Issued in Hungary
The state secretary for social care policy issued a weather-related “red code” on Monday, mandating social institutions to accept homeless or vulnerable people during the heat wave. Attila Fülöp told a press conference on Monday that the order is in force from 8am on Monday until 9pm on Wednesday.

According to the forecast of the National Meteorological Service, during the second heatwave of this summer, temperatures can reach 36-37 degrees Celsius early in the week.

A Mediterranean cyclone is affecting the weather in much of Europe, and the hot, warm air will also reach Hungary. The heat will continue in the first half of the week, and the nights and mornings will become progressively milder.

A weak cold front will moderate the heat midweek.

The National Public Health Center and the National Directorate General for Disaster Management of the Ministry of Interior drew attention to the fact that prolonged heat also strains a healthy body, but especially vulnerable are infants, the elderly, and those with cardiovascular diseases.

They recommend that during the heatwave - particularly between 11 am and 3 pm - everyone should try to stay in cool places, in the shade, and avoid physical exertion. The body requires a larger amount of water than usual in hot weather, so increased attention should be paid to fluid intake.

They emphasized that children and pets should never be left in a car, even with windows slightly open, as the air temperature inside a vehicle can rise to 70 degrees Celsius.
