1. Borkonyha

5th district, Sas utca 3

While as the name suggests this place is a ‘kitchen’, the fact wine is at the start of this truly Hungarian venue’s name means that wines are key at this rather modestly-priced Michelin-starred eatery.

They offer 200 wine varieties, naturally including some of Hungary’s top producers, with many available by the glass in this smart mirror-lined space.

2. Doblo Wine Bar

1072. Budapest, Dob utca 20.

It is  located in Budapest's vibrant Jewish Quarter, is a cozy and stylish spot known for its extensive selection of Hungarian artisan and bio wines.

The bar offers a warm ambiance complemented by live music and friendly service, making it a favorite among locals and visitors alike. Whether you're a wine connoisseur or just looking to enjoy a relaxed evening, Doblo provides a perfect blend of quality drinks and a welcoming atmosphere.

3. Cintányéros
8th District, Bókay János utca 52.

This is not exactly a wine bar as you may know it, rather a refreshing twist on a traditional neighborhood tavern.  Found slightly out of the way in Budapest's evolving District 8, a stone's throw from the Semmelweis Klinikák metro stop, this charming spot combines the warmth of a local hangout with a well curated selection of local wines.

The intimate upstairs area features a range of tables and some cosy corners, making it a favorite among couples out for a date-night. The wine list is thoughtfully crafted, highlighting both very affordable house selections and pricier renowned local labels.

4. Csendes Társ  - Temporarily closed

5th district, Magyar utca 18

This is a cosy downtown wine oasis right next to Károlyi-kert. Considering how tiny the place is, the selection is pretty amazing, as you can choose from literally hundreds of wines, plus there is no shortage of simple yet delicious dishes on offer too.

As evening falls, the green chairs and the shadows dancing in the candlelight lend Csendes Társ an even more romantic atmosphere, making it the great spot for a date night out wine tasting.

5. DiVino Bazilika

5th district, Szent István tér 3.

This is arguably the most popular wine bar in Budapest, located by the beautiful big Basilica on Szent István Square. This was the first initiative of this kind by the Junibor team, who bring together young winemakers, and it has gone from strength to strength over the years to win it’s now well-established top reputation.

The modern vibe is most evident in the design: featuring minimalist furniture and a long table with the intention of creating a community feeling that reflects the philosophy of Junibor. The wine selection covers approximately 25 wineries, from which only the best wines are showcased. Although the cuisine is not always excellent, you can pick out a few decent accompanying wine snacks.

6. Drop Shop Borbár temporarily closed

The team at this popular wine bar believe that every bottle of wine has a special message, and they aim to tell these stories to everyone who cares to drop in. The wine list itself changes regularly so there’s no shortage of new tales to hear, and they offer more than 60 wines at any one time. The selection is made from some of the most exciting wine regions of the world, and from Hungary of course.

French Champagne, Italian, Spanish, and local sparkling wines play a prominent role in their offer, of which more than a dozen can be tasted every day. Plus they are happy to open any of their bottles of pálinka if you want to taste them. To make any tasting complete, they offer daily tapas, special hams, and several types of bruschetta.

7. Fricska 2.0 - Closed for winter holiday

8. Gepárd és Űrhajó Borbár

17. Van Boris Borbár

This popular watering-hole located pretty far out in Zugló - the green district in Pest with a mix of art nouveau villas and nice wide boulevards - offers a diverse selection of Hungarian wines, along with craft beers and spirits, plus a variety of modest bar food.

18. vinoWonka Wine & Chocolate Bar

8th district, Corvin sétány 2.

19. Zengő Wine Bár – New Name: VERSUS Budapest

8th district, Krúdy Gyula utca 6.

The team here recently held a ‘closing party’, explaining in Hungarian that, “The property that houses Versus unexpectedly changed hands, and the new owner has other goals for the premises. We will be moving out in the first weeks of January 2025, we have no idea where we will go yet, so the exciting and short story of Versus will probably be permanently interrupted, and our capital invested will disappear.”

20. 0,75 Bistro & Wine Bar

5th district, Szent István tér 6.
