The Budapest Pride march was held for the 21st year in the capital on Saturday afternoon. The march ended in front of Parliament with speeches and concerts. Pride spokesperson Cintia Karlik thanked everyone for attending and for choosing “active participation, freedom and equality in law instead of fear”.

Hungarian President János Áder has appealed in a letter to leaders of the ten biggest CO2 emitting countries to set an example and coordinate to reduce emissions to a greater extent and at a quicker pace than earlier pledged. Áder addressed his letter to the leaders of the United States, China, Australia, Brazil, India, Japan, Indonesia, Canada, Germany and Russia, the president’s office said.

Although the number of abortions in Hungary dropped by 22.9 percent between 2010-2015 and declined by a further 4.1 percent in the first three months this year, their ratio is still high in a European comparison, a human resources ministry official told daily Magyar Hírlap.

St. Margit Hospital in Budapest has launched an “adopt a ward” scheme, seeking help or financial support for the building’s refurbishment, the daily Népszabadság reports. The hospital which has 256 active beds and 31 outpatient departments is seeking the refurbishment of its entire intensive care unit, cardiology department and several wards and bathrooms in other departments.

From April to May 2016, the Embassy of Canada in Budapest was home to a moving student-made art exhibit that creatively communicated the importance of human rights and the value of diversity. The exhibit, consisting of 10 art pieces and 3D installations, was the collective output of over 200 students, who participated in a project to promote tolerance and inclusion through media and education.
