The number of road accidents and injuries caused by people falling on the streets because of black ice has soared in the wintry conditions, the National Ambulance Service wrote on its Facebook page. The service received at least 1,000 calls for help in Budapest alone, it added.

Recent intense snowfall across Hungary has brought down trees and broken tree branches, the disaster management authority has said. Firefighters responded to some 300 calls by 10.30am on Thursday, with the snow causing most of the trouble west of the Danube and in and around Budapest.
