Report: Budapest-Sofia Route Will Not Receive State Subsidy

Direct flights between Budapest and Sofia will no longer receive state support as earlier promised by the National Development Ministry, Hungarian daily Népszabadság reported.

TAP Portugal is suspending its Budapest flights in April, an airline representative said in daily Magyar Hírlap. Péter Szolnok told the paper that the airline came under new management last year and the strategy they adopted involves scrapping a number of flights, such as ones to Bucharest, Goteborg, Hannover and Zagreb.

Germany’s flagship carrier Lufthansa has announced that it is launching a direct flight connecting the Bavarian capital Munich with Hungary’s second city of Debrecen from next April. German airline company Lufthansa cancelled all of its Wednesday flights between Budapest and Frankfurt as well as several of its Munich flights because of a strike by cabin crew. The departure and arrival information system of Liszt Ferenc International Airport showed all of Lufthansa’s Budapest flights had been cancelled on Wednesday, with the exception of its morning and evening Munich flights.
