The list of banned psychoactive drugs has been expanded with a 13 new items. Electronic cigarettes were grouped under ordinary cigarette regulations. As a result only licensed tobacco shops, the so-called kiosks, may sell them in the future. The law on air traffic was also modified authorising the police to levy fines for the illegal use of drones.

Based on a new law on excise tax adopted by Hungarian lawmakers in June, the excise tax on tobacco products will increase from Thursday, and more price hikes are coming, according to Hungarian news agency MTI, reported by business news portal napi.hu.

Customs officers seized 3,700 packs of untaxed cigarettes at Budapest airport from two passengers arriving from Dubai. They had six suitcases with 4,000 packets of cigarettes and a further 51kg of tobacco. The value of the goods seized is estimated at Ft 7.5 million.

The national tax authority (NAV) has purchased a drone to detect and monitor routes of cigarette smuggling, daily Magyar Idők said, citing a NAV spokesperson. The aircraft, bought at a cost of 20 million forints (EUR 65,000) in European Union funding, completes a range of special equipment such as night vision devices, thermal cameras as well as a hovercraft to control riverways.
