Anti-corruption protests took place across Hungary today. In Budapest the demonstration started in front of the Eiffel Palace Office Building near the Nyugati (western) train station. A few minutes before the scheduled start of the protest it seemed as though police and members of the press would outnumber the protesters.

The demolition of Central Europe’s tallest out-of-use building must be started within six months of the ruling coming into force, and the estimated cost is Ft 1.5 billion. The weight of the rubble generated could reach 20,000 tons.

On the evening of Wednesday 22 September around 500 formally dressed guests attended the official opening ceremony of the Continental Hotel Zara in Budapest. This listed-building has recently received Euro 50 million worth of renovations to create a blend of art nouveau; art deco and modern design, all of which still manages to respect the tradition of the first baths built on this site in 1827.
