Eight people are being treated in hospital in Debrecen with symptoms of anthrax contracted from illegally slaughtered and sold beef last week. Two cattle were slaughtered in violation of regulations at a Tiszafüred farm some days previously. It is believed that the farmers knew that the animals were ill, but did not notify the animal health authority.
