Next year will be dedicated to tax simplification and cuts, with the personal income tax dropping from the current 16% to 15%, the economy ministry said. The cut will result in an extra 30,000 forints (EUR 96) left in people’s pockets in 2016. Family tax allowances for families with at least two children will be increased by 25%, leaving an additional 60,000 forints extra with such families.

Up to mid-November, Hungary’s police launched 1,168 investigations connected with people smuggling, compared with a total of 219 last year, the daily Magyar Idők reported. Zoltán Boross of the National Investigations Office told the paper that the police disbanded 20 gangs and had started proceedings against 193 suspects, out of which 68 were arrested.

The two British men arrested on a train in Lökösháza on Wednesday opted for a simplified procedure whereby they will be extradited to the UK within ten days, when they appeared in court yesterday.
