The Kúria, Hungary’s supreme court, yesterday upheld the Capital Court’s annulment of last year’s frequency tender for a fourth mobile operator in Hungary. As a result state mobile operator MPVI Mobil cannot launch a service, which was originally planned for December 2012.

Fourth-quarter ebitda at Telenor’s Hungarian operations fell to Ft 11.65 billion from Ft 11.77 billion one year earlier, despite a rise in revenues from Ft 41.4 billion to Ft 42 billion, the mobile-phone service provider has announced. Telenor’s average revenue per user rose to Ft 3,629 from Ft 3,577.

Media and communications authority NMHH yesterday announced plans for an auction of additional bandwidth for mobile phone operators next year. The aim is to boost mobile-phone coverage, as growth in mobile-internet usage is behind that of the EU average and the service is not accessible to 40% of the population, NMHH officials told on a conference.

Magyar Telekom is happy about the Capital Court ruling of last week to cancel the result of the 900MHz frequency tender, chairman and CEO Christopher Mattheisen told a Friday press conference. The decision makes it possible for the three incumbent mobile phone operators to obtain sufficient bandwidth, he noted.
