Pope Francis has sent greetings to Hungarian President János Áder and all Hungarians on the occasion of the country’s August 20 national holiday, Áder’s office told MTI on Monday. “I am pleased to send cordial greetings to Your Excellency and to all the beloved citizens of Hungary on this happy occasion of your National Day, under the patronage of Saint Stephen,” the Pope said in his letter.

Fidesz moved yesterday to amend the advertising tax, approved earlier this month, following reports that a last-minute change to the bill may have saved RTL Klub Ft 3 billion in taxes this year. That change, seen as benefiting rival TV2, allowed companies to deduct previous years’ losses from their tax base.
