He said Ft 2.2 billion will be available for county museums, Ft 2.9 billion for libraries as well as Ft 1.7 billion for small village libraries. The Hungarian government is launching a Ft 3 billion subsidy programme “First Job Guaranteed” from the employment fund NFA to help career starters to obtain work experience, state secretary Sándor Czomba announced. In Hungary some 220,000 persons under 25 have jobs and 86,000 are registered unemployed, among which 58,000 are career starters.

Parliament on Friday rejected an amendment motion under which a congestion fee could be collected from drivers in Budapest. The motion was submitted by two deputy mayors who are also MPs, of whom Gábor Bagdy abstained from voting while István György voted against his own proposal. It was soundly rejected by 305 votes to 14.

The cabinet has agreed to enter into a joint venture with Australian mining company Wildhorse Energy to assess the viability of reviving uranium mining in the Mecsek hills in the next six months. The joint venture company will be set up by Wildhorse, which already has ongoing projects in the region near Pecs, along with state owned rehabilitation company Mecsek-Oko and mining company Mecsekerc.
