One-fourth said the decision to leave the EU has another cause.

The Municipal Court sentenced a man for soliciting payment from a US company based in Hungary in return for using his influence to lower the VAT rate on cooking oil. In the non-binding ruling, the man was handed a two-year prison sentence suspended for three years. The charges were brought in December last year.

Nearly 90% of those Hungarians who said they will vote in the government referendum reject the mandatory quota system of the EU, according to a poll conducted by the Fidesz-linked Századvég Foundation.
