Museum of Applied Arts: Ödön Lechner (1845–1914), one of the greatest figures in Hungarian architecture, and certainly its most original, deserves a prominent place among the international talents from the turn of the century. According to tradition, the Lechner family, who had their own coat of arms, had migrated to Hungary from Bavaria.

Hungary is in the running to become home to the new eastern European plant of UK carmaker Jaguar Land Rover, according to the Financial Times. JLR, owned by India’s Tata group, is finalising plans for the new factory and has drawn up a shortlist of four host countries: Poland, Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Hungary, the paper said, citing several people familiar with the matter.

The Budapest History Museum has joined forces recently with the Matthias Church to bring visitors a grandiose dual exhibition about the profound history of the Buda Castle Coronation Church of Our Lady. Among various objects the exhibition contains a generous sampling of the enormous collection of architectural drawings dating back to the time of the great 19th-century reconstruction.

Hungarian tech companies Ustream and Prezi are teaming up with the local unit of Sweden’s Ericsson to host the CRAFT software developer conference in Budapest between 22 and 24 April. More than 1,300 professionals have registered for the conference. About 60% are foreigners, arriving from 41 countries.
