New rules concerning the opening hours of retail outlets during the Christmas holidays will result in stores closing longer this year, the National Association of Retailers said on Monday. Many shops will be open on December 24, especially for grocery shopping, but all stores must shut at noon, under new laws restricting opening times on holidays.

Six months after the ban on Sunday shopping, more than two-thirds of the population disagree with the law, according to a poll conducted by Ipsos. The survey found that the most people do their regular Sunday shopping on other days, while one-fourth of the respondents choose smaller stores. The relevant law allows all shops to be open on the last four Sundays before Christmas.
