A cyclone swept across parts of western Hungary on Wednesday, wreaking havoc with winds of nearly 140km per hour. Much of the damage was caused along the south shore of Lake Balaton, where streets and holiday homes in many towns are now under water.

The Mediterranean cyclone Yvette is expected to reach Hungary, bringing gusty winds and triggering heavy rainfall, the weather services reported yesterday. Windstorms are also forecast for today, with over 100km per hour gusts (mostly in the western regions).
