Hungary’s Juvenile Population Record Low, Seniors Record High

The Central Statistical Office’s (KSH) “micro census”, conducted a year ago, has recorded the lowest number of children and the greatest elderly population in the history of such surveys, KSH reported on Monday. In 2016, Hungary had some 1.4 million children under 15, compared to nearly 2.3 million after WWII.

We could hold a celebration, as they usually do on such major anniversaries, we could enumerate numbers, records, and results. Socialists Advocate Free Medicines To People Over 65

The opposition Socialist Party is looking for ways to offer prescription drugs free of charge to people older than 65, the leader of the party said, Gyula Molnár, said at an event organised in cooperation with pensioner unions. The total cost of such a programme, covering drugs prescribed by family physicians, may not cost as much as an annual 20 billion forints (EUR 64.7m), he said.

Pensions will rise by 1.6 percent next year and each pensioner will receive an end-of-year bonus of 10,000 forints in Erzsébet vouchers, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán said after a meeting of the Seniors’ Council on Tuesday.
