A journalist who posed as a refugee in the summer in order to gain access to detention centres has been charged with falsifying public documents and misleading the authorities. Index staff writer Gergely Nyilas posed as a Kyrgyz citizen in August, during the peak of the refugee crisis, and allowed himself to be caught at the Röszke border station for registration.

Prosecutors have ordered an investigation into the damaging of the Soviet memorial on Szabadság tér on October 23 by Jobbik MP Elõd Novák, state news channel M1 reported. Novák had attempted to remove the hammer and sickle from the monument after holding a press conference on the square. When police stopped him, Novák began to attack the plinth of the memorial with a hammer and chisel.
