The Economy Ministry has refused all 28 requests from German discount chain Lidl for exemptions from the so-called “plaza stop” law against the construction of large shops or shopping malls. The law passed in 2012 banned the construction of retail units larger than 300m2 until 2013 and larger than 400m2 from 2014, if no special permit was obtained.
