While Hungary is blessed with a broad palette of indigenous white grape varieties, there are much slimmer pickings when it comes to black (red) grapes, although Kadarka and Kékfrankos are capable of providing plenty of pleasure to the palate. These two grapes were the subject of Borjour’s Kékfrankos and Kadarka tasting held at Hotel Nemzeti Budapest MGallery by Sofitel, on October 16.

Omar spent some time in academia, his studies ranging from literature to medieval history to linguistics, and is currently in the final stages of completing his PhD thesis, after which he plans to return full-time to his father's cheese business that has taken root in Hungary and spread around the world.

After a quiet spring, wineries across the land have been boosted by staycationers thirsty for Hungarian wines, which has compensated for the lack of foreign visitors.
