Non-EU citizens bought 88 Hungarian residency bonds in the first quarter, down from 174 in the same period of 2015, Magyar Nemzet reports. The bonds, offering a residence permit to those who invest €300,000 in Hungarian bonds for at least five years, were introduced in 2013. So far 3,446 have been sold.

Fifth District police are investigating suspected abuse of public data by the MNB, based on a report by private citizen István Tényi, Világgazdaság reports. A letter to Tényi from the prosecutors of the Fifth and 13th District informs him that the investigation was launched on February 29. Tényi reported his suspicions to prosecutors on January 23.

A network of cameras installed on major roads throughout Hungary recorded nearly 100 traffic violations in its first two hours after it became operational at 8 am this Tuesday. Traffic fines are Ft 50,000 for driving through a red light, Ft 30,000 for illegal overtaking or U-turns, and Ft 300,000 for exceeding the speed limit by Ft 75km per hour.

The Capital Prosecutor’s Office has indicted five people because of suspected embezzlement, fraud and other crimes in the collapse one year ago of the Buda-Cash brokerage. If found guilty they could be sentenced to up 25 years in prison, Budapest Prosecutor General Tibor Ibolya announced.
