The extension of Budapest tram line 1 was presented to the public this week. The 1.7-kilometer extension makes the tram line the longest in the city (18.3 km), stretching from Kelenföld Railway Station, crossing the river into Pest and back, to Óbuda, news site magyarnemzet.hu reported.

Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has asked the European Commission to reimburse Hungary for half its spending on border protection, the government office chief said on Thursday. János Lázár said at a regular press briefing that the total cost since the start of the migrant crisis amounted to 800 million euros.

Hungary’s government has allocated almost 1.5 billion forints (EUR 4.8m) for developments at kindergartens in Transylvania (Erdély) in 2017 and 2018, state secretary for nation policy Árpád Potápi said in Sfantu Gheorghe (Sepsiszentgyörgy) on Saturday.

Work will soon start on expanding the Millenáris Park in the 2nd district in Buda, with a deep garage for 500 cars and landscaped gardens among the plans, the economy minister said. The designs for the 2.5 hectare site are ready and the procedure for obtaining the relevant permits is under way, Mihály Varga, the MP who represents the 2nd and 3rd districts of Budapest, said.
