Three men who held up the flag of Hungary’s wartime fascist Arrow-Cross party were yesterday banned from all Hungarian professional football matches for periods of two to four years by the Capital Court. The incident occurred after the FTC-Újpest first-division game at the Puskás Ferenc Stadium on September 22, 2013 in the presence of nearly 1,000 fans and police.

The government will soon launch a new effort to persuade highly qualified young Hungarians to bring their skills back to Hungary. Economy Ministry state secretary for labour and education Sándor Czomba told reporters that while there are many job seekers in Hungary, there is a growing shortage of skilled workers.

The 22nd Budapest International Book Festival will highlight on 220 years of Hungarian book culture, festival director Péter Zentai told a press briefing on Tuesday. Zentai said the festival will be held at the Millenáris from April 23-26.

Hungary Allocates Ft 1.8bn To Repay EU Funds

The government is providing Ft 1.8 billion to 140 local authorities who have been ordered to repay EU funds after the European anti-fraud office OLAF found that the funds had been used illegally. The smallest bailout is Ft 4.2 million and the largest Ft 30 million, mostly concerning construction of playgrounds in 2008-09.

Today’s German rail strike will affect some trains passing through, departing from or arriving in Hungary, state railway company MÁV announced on Tuesday. The strike, scheduled from 2 a.m. Wednesday until 9 p.m. Thursday, affects trains running from Budapest through Prague to Berlin and Hamburg.
